Launched in 2007 by the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at the University of Michigan, the Gabii Project is an ongoing international archaeological initiative whose goal is to excavate and study the formation and growth of Gabii, an ancient Latin city that was once Rome’s nearest neighbor and rival. Each summer, the project offers a field school that is affiliated with the MU International Center and is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. Participants learn cutting-edge excavation and digital recording techniques as well as research skills for the interpretation of architecture, stratigraphy, and a wide variety of finds spanning from the Iron Age to the Late Roman periods.
