Languages and Literature
BA degree
min. 3.0 Overall GPA
2-3 years of college-level Greek or Latin
min. 3.0 GPA in Greek/Latin/Classics courses
BA degree
min. 3.0 Overall GPA
2-3 years in both college-level Greek and Latin
3.0 GPA in Greek/Latin/Classics courses
MA degree in Classical Languages or 21 hours of graduate work in Greek and Latin
min. 3.0 Overall GPA
reading knowledge of one modern foreign language (French, German, or Italian preferred)
Archaeology
BA degree with major in Classical Archaeology, Classics, History, or related field

Application Materials
Applications to our Languages and Literature and Archaeology programs should include:
- a 500-word statement of interest
- a 10-20 page writing sample
- transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- 3 letters of recommendation
Applications to our Classical Arts and Humanities programs should include:
- a 500-word statement of interest, which should include a project proposal statement indicating how you intend to pursue AMS from an interdisciplinary perspective
- a 10-20 page writing sample OR a portfolio of work in the arts
- transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- 3 letters of recommendation
GRE scores are not required for applications.
Please note: When selecting your academic program in Slate, the online application system, choose the degree program that corresponds to the most advanced degree you seek to obtain with us. If it is the MA, select "Ancient Mediterranean Studies (MA)", and if it is the PhD, select "Ancient Mediterranean Studies (PhD)".
Deadlines
- January 15 annually: for Fall admission with financial support (TAships, fellowships, etc.)
- April 1 annually: for Fall admission without financial support
- November 1: for Spring admission without financial support
